Plan Ahead


Getting home from the grocery store and realizing that you forgot a key ingredient for tonight's dinner is the worst feeling! To streamline my shopping, I rely on this Weekday Meal Planner from Real Simple.

Here's how to use it:
  1. In the menu column on the left side, list your meals for each day.
  2. Write down the ingredients you'll need to buy for each meal in the appropriate columns to the right, which conveniently correspond to the different sections of most supermarkets. The "Miscellaneous" section can be used for unrelated needs, like paper towels or toothpaste.
  3. When you arrive at the store, shop down each column. You'll be good to go for the week, and you won't accidentally forget something!
Tip: If your meals call for perishable items like fish, chicken, or fresh basil, make those at the beginning of the week. Save pasta and items with a longer shelf-life for Thursday and Friday.
